Where to stay in Matlock Bath depends largely on whether you want to be in the thick of the promenade or slightly above it. The Parade and the streets immediately around it put you within a short walk of the railway station, the aquarium, boat hire and the chip shops that give the village much of its character, and several of the best-known hotels, including converted Victorian villas, sit directly on this stretch or a few minutes up the hillside.
