Grouse & Claret

Location and interior of the premises are nice. Food very hit and miss. I had the fish and chips. Wasn't fresh fish, and the whole meal looked and tasted poor. Nobody asked how our meals were until taking the plate back after eating. I left some of mine, so it must have been bad. When I mentioned this to the server, he was very dismissive and not really interested. You may ask why I didn't complain earlier. Simply not to cause an issue and spoil a birthday lunch for my sister. Her meal was OK, not great, but it was a lunch time.

Food and service were very good. Lots of choice on the menu. I had a burger that was lovely and my wife had the seabass that was delicious. We will be returning and would recommend the grouse and claret to my friends and family. Michelle was our waitress and nothing was too much trouble.

We had a great stay at the Grouse & Claret campsite. The pitches were really spacious and the facilities were fresh and very clean throughout our stay. The pub itself looked lovely — we only stopped in for a drink, but all the staff were really friendly and welcoming. The location is perfect too. It’s right next to Peak Village shopping village and an easy, scenic 5km riverside walk to Chatsworth House. We carried on to Bakewell (another 6km) and then back round to Rowsley (another 6km), although you can easily get the bus if you don’t fancy the full loop. We did it with a baby in a carrier and found the walks very manageable. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend it as a base for exploring the Peak District.
