About Hill Wood View

Sheltered by tall trees on a family farm near Matlock, Hill Wood View delivers exactly what its name promises: stunning rural vistas over the hills and woods of the Derbyshire Dales. This is genuinely back-to-basics camping – no electricity at all, so pack torches and batteries – but you'll find running water, portable toilets, and a peaceful setting that's perfect for introducing families to pared-down tent life. The lack of showers and mains power won't suit everyone, but for those after a wilder camping experience, it's ideal.

The site sits on the very edge of the Peak District National Park, a brilliant springboard for hiking and cycling trails, while Matlock's shops and Darley Dale's pubs are a short drive (or a 20-minute walk if you fancy stretching your legs). Dogs are welcome year-round, barbecues encouraged, and the surrounding countryside offers caves, stately homes and theme parks for family days out. A proper escape into nature, without straying too far from civilisation.

Absolute lovely little campsite, we’ve been twice now in the last 2 weeks and it’s our favourite little getaway to come to. It’s secluded, plenty of room and the owners (Joanne and Pete) are just helpful and attentive, kind and lovely beyond words. Idea for anyone wanting some quiet relaxation time but also ideal for family’s as last weekend when the campsite was full all the kids were playing together in the field and it was lovely to see. Also the views and surrounding scenery is out of this world! And… we’re coming back next weekend too 🤣 deffo a 5 star from us, love Stacey and Keith

This campsite offers an ideal location that is both peaceful and exceptionally well maintained. The facilities were very clean, and the provision of safe, drinkable water was greatly appreciated. What set this site apart was the hospitality of the owner, whose warm welcome and attentiveness created a truly comfortable atmosphere. Although our stay was only 24 hours, it was an excellent experience, and I would highly recommend this campsite to anyone seeking a quiet and well-cared-for place to stay.

The couple who own the campsite are absolutely amazing so one helpful chatty and caring nothing was to much trouble for them help us so many times. The views are excellent Locations good not to far from things but far enough to enjoy the peace and quiet. Stayed for 2 nights and already planning on booking again soon.

Location is good for local attractions - Chatsworth, Bakewell etc. Field would be better if it was flat - not the easiest to pitch a tent! Also next door to what is apparently the largest lead smelting factory in Europe, which wasn't mentioned in the site description. Quite a lot of noise from the factory, always in the background.
