Ponsford Ponds - Mallard Roundhouse

Photo: david sykes

Mallard Roundhouse is a roundhouse—a circular structure set beside fishing lakes at Ponsford Ponds, just outside Cullompton in Mid Devon. Everything happens in one open-plan space: bedroom, kitchen, dining and living area combined, plus a shower room. A zip-and-link super king bed (which can be split into singles) sits a few feet from the kitchen, a wood-burner, and the dining table. The decked area opens onto the water, where guests can fish the lakes at no extra cost.

The kitchen has a portable two-ring hob, combi microwave-oven, fridge, and sink—enough for simple meals. Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and electricity are included, along with initial logs for the burner. One car can park on site. The property is unfenced and backs onto a lake, so it's not suitable for children. Smoking is not permitted indoors.

Cullompton is five minutes' drive away; Exeter around twenty. The Blackdown Hills lie nearby. Fishing guests will find common and mirror carp in the ponds; the ½-acre water next to the roundhouse holds fish up to 24lb.

Lovely location. Utterly serene. Perfect for a relaxed break minutes from the motorway and you can't hear it at all. Just beautiful. Owners David and Suzanna are a joy.

We stayed in Jack's Hut , lovely secluded Shepherds hut with all mod cons and a hot tub. Several other huts spread out over the location. Butterleigh Inn under an hour walk away, with great food and drink.

We had a relaxing weekend away. The kingfisher lodge was very clean and tidy. We had so many fish from the lakes and they were all in excellent condition. Loved the hot tub. We will be back again.

Me and my wife stayed in the mallard round house from 29th aug to 1st sept for a quite get away break for her birthday And we loved it . Beautiful place and accommodation was top draw . Also the fishing was an added little bonus . Like a lot of people I spend a lot of time on selected carp waters chasing the perfect fish so this was never about the fishing . And as David the owner said it’s not sold as an out and out carp venue it’s a holiday retreat with a little bit of fishing to complement the stay and it did just that , although don’t think you’ll just pub chuck and bag up on all the ponds . But with a bit of thinking you can have some lovely fish . I had several fish and one cracking mirror knocking on the door of 24lb that I’d be happy to catch anywhere and the wife even had a few small but fun fish . Lovely to meet you David and thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful place Tony and Ashleigh jarvis
