Horncombe Stables occupies the first floor of a converted building dating to the 14th century, part of a sprawling estate in the heart of Mid Sussex. The apartment sits at the end of a long drive with views across fields and woodland, on grounds shared with the owner that stretch to 50 acres. Footpaths lead directly from the property through mature woodland; an enclosed garden with summer house and barbecue furniture sits immediately outside.
Two bedrooms, each with its own ensuite shower room, sleep five guests in total. One room has a kingsize bed and a child's z-bed; the other a kingsize alone. The open-plan living space combines kitchen, dining and sitting areas on one level. You'll find a full cooker, dishwasher, microwave and other essentials to cook properly, alongside a 42-inch TV for quieter evenings. An external utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels come as standard; heating is oil central with gas cooking. One dog stays free and is welcome in the enclosed garden.
The location suits those drawn to the South of England Showground events at Ardingly, or exploring Wakehurst Place and its Millennium Seed Bank nearby. Birdwatching, fishing and water sports are available at Ardingly Reservoir. Horse riding and clay pigeon shooting can be arranged locally. The setting appeals to nature lovers; deer herds roam the wider grounds and the woodland attracts abundant wildlife. Note that there is an unfenced stream 100 yards from the property, and the garden has sloping banks.

A fantastic stay in lovely surroundings, the owner was really helpful and nothing was too much trouble. the accomodation is extremely well appointed and the welcome basket a nice touch. the main thing that set this off was the amount of wildlife so close. Than you.

Super, super place in an idyllic location. The apartment had everything one could possible need and an unexpected goodie basket was awaiting our arrival. Our hosts were warm, welcoming and helpful, the location is just beautiful with lovely walks straight from the door. Will definitely plan to visit again.

This was a perfect place to stay, quiet, except for our baby, very well equiped, clean and kindly provisioned with milk and breakfast items. The owners are on site, very friendly and welcoming. Surrounded by fields and wildlife easy to spot direct from the flat.
