We stayed in one of the small cottages in the old stable block to the rear of the hotel beyond the lovely beer garden. Downstairs was a spacious living room and basic kitchen supplied with a small fridge, supplied with cold bottled water, 2 cokes and a jug of milk to go with the tea and coffee facilities. Biscuits and a box of chocolates were unexpected but appreciated extras. We also had the evening meal and whilst it's not an extensive menu there were 4 specials available and our choices were both excellent. The breakfast choice was great and set us up for our continuing journey ahead. The restaurant was also a public bar in the evening and was frequented by locals with a good atmosphere. If you're looking for somewhere in Moffat that's welcoming, unpretentious with decent food, friendly, efficient service then you need look no further than the Balmoral.

I haven't stayed at Balmoral hotel but I have ordered from their menu relatively frequently. I usually order their roast dinner which is exceptional! Locally sourced ingredients and best roast dinner ive tasted . Roast dinners are usually served daily, but other options are on the menu. The staff are very friendly , great service. Vibe is relaxed very welcoming which i prefer instead of formal . Overall the Balmoral hotel has a lovely atmosphere in beautiful surroundings, the courtyard is a joy to relax in , great food , great price and great service.

We were surprised to find that our room was appreciably larger than average, with a decent-sized seating area (nice sofa facing a good-sized TV) and a fridge - which contained fresh milk! That's welcome and unusual. There was also a large tin of proper teabags, unlike many chain hotels which give you two if you're lucky! Comfortable double bed and a good bathroom. Downside: in the end it didn't bother us because the next morning was wet and grey, but the windows had vertical blinds and the slats didn't quite meet. A bright summer's morning might be a different story. Our room looked out on to Moffat High Street, so we expected a bit of noise which didn't really materialise. We had an evening meal and a couple of drinks in the hotel restaurant - very reasonably priced. I had liver and onions which were delicious, as were my wife's fish and chips. In the morning I had a cooked breakfast which was equally good, and the coffee was hot. Overall a very good experience and we would definitely stay there again on our way north.

Great hotel, staff were friendly and helpful, room was huge, excellent amenities in the room. Food was excellent. Parking is on the high street but plenty of it. Would definitely recommend 👌
