About Enniskeen Country House Hotel
Enniskeen was built in the 1890s as a private residence for a Belfast tobacco and rope manufacturer and has operated as a small country house hotel for decades, set in a 12-acre estate in the Shimna Valley just outside Newcastle. A woodland trail on the grounds leads down to the Glen River, and the house itself keeps much of its original period character.
Rooms and suites are individually furnished rather than uniform, and the hotel's restaurant serves food built around local ingredients, with an afternoon tea service in its lounge, the Brandy Pad, named after one of the Mournes' best-known smugglers' paths.
The estate setting puts guests within easy reach of both the Bryansford approach to the mountains and Newcastle town centre, and the hotel arranges golf at Royal County Down and bike hire for exploring the surrounding trails.

This was our first time staying here and definitely won't be our last!!. From the onset it was amazing, driving up to this beautiful tranquil hotel in the countryside was peaceful and relaxing. Eileen and chris were so lovely and couldn't do enough. Views were absolutely amazing and the beautiful river walk was lovely, kids loved it ❤️. Enjoyed a lovely meal and great breakfast. A step back in Time and a touch of Downtown Abbey on your doorstep. We enjoyed being treated as Special Guests as we were there for a two night stay for our 30th Wedding Anniversary. The service was top quality and staff were so attentive. Our Room was beautiful and the bathroom was stunning all old style and simple to use. The views were amazing and we enjoyed the River Walk around the grounds and saw a red squirrel which was magical to see. The food was beautiful, simple cooking and well cooked and presented separate so you can manage your own portion which avoided any wastage. Would really recommend their homemade desserts as they are fabulous. If you are looking for a quiet retreat with the utmost professional table service then this is the place for you. We will definitely go back.

Our first time visiting and we couldn't wait to leave. The hotel is described in flattering terms, but staff seem very hurried and not welcoming at all. Unfortunately, the hotel is very dated in all aspects and the beds are uncomfortable. Please be aware of old carpets and heavily fragranced bedlinen if you're allergic. The restaurant boasts home cooked meals, but we were very disappointed with both menu and quality.

A lovely family-run hotel full of old world charm and with magnificent views of the Mournes, this is a great place to unwind. Staff are welcoming and attentive, local produce is on the menu and parts of the beautiful garden are adapted to encourage wildlife. Our third visit was early this month and it remains my very favourite hotel.
