The Shipwright’s Loft

Newark and Sherwood

Newark Antiques Fair, the nature reserves dotting the Lincolnshire-Nottinghamshire border, and the cathedral city of Lincoln are all close enough for day trips from The Shipwright's Loft. This converted barn sits in South Scarle, a village with 12th-century roots—St Helena's Church and period architecture still define the street. A car parked beneath means countryside walks and Besthorpe Nature Reserve are accessible without leaving the rural setting.

The property is one open-plan space, sleeping two in a four-poster king bed. Exposed oak beams run across bright walls; a full kitchen sits ready for cooking, there's a wood-burning stove and smart television for evenings in, and a roll-top bath with underfloor heating for the practical luxuries. A shared terrace faces the gardens of the Grade II listed house that contains the barn. Electricity, bed linen and towels come as standard. No smoking.

The setup suits couples wanting somewhere quiet to base themselves while exploring the region—or somewhere to stay put entirely. Arrival is after 16:00, departure before 10:00.
