About Barrowfield Hotel

Newquay's beaches and coastal attractions are within easy reach of the Barrowfield Hotel, a straightforward base for a Cornish break rather than a destination in itself. The town's mix of surf spots, walking routes and seafront pubs sits close by, with cycling paths and watersports also on offer nearby for those wanting to get out and about.

The hotel has 80 rooms, including family and accessible options, all with en-suite bathrooms and the choice of drinks in room. There's free WiFi throughout, a lift for those who prefer not to use the stairs, and a games room alongside an indoor swimming pool for downtime. Staff are consistently described as friendly and efficient, which helps smooth over the practical business of a large hotel.

Meals are served in the restaurant, with breakfast and packed lunches available, and portions are generous with a fair spread of choice, though the quality doesn't always match the quantity. Evenings bring organised entertainment and a bar with outdoor seating, plus a snack bar for something lighter. On-site parking is available for a charge, and it's worth noting the lift has occasionally been out of order.

Just come back today from 5 days at Barrowfields with my granddaughter very well nice warm welcome. Very helpful staff, lovely twin room waitresses run off there feet but keep the food coming. Only one problem there was one waitress had Very long hair flapping in all the food which really wasn't right I believe she was the managers wife. Apart from that really lovely holiday. Very good entertainment. Pat on the back for Daishs team.

A warm welcome and great staff, friendly, courteous and efficient at their jobs. Very helpful. The rooms get very hot and that's my only niggle. I had a double with a walk-in shower. Very clean, food was great, choices are good. I actually prefer this location to in town. It is opposite Tolcarne Beach, or you can sit on a bench on Barrowfields and watch the sea looking over to the harbour. Well positioned for buses to Padstow, Truro, beaches along the coast in bother directions (Constantine Bay or Perranporth), great for cliff top walks. Lovely swimming pool. Nice reception area. My second visit and I think this one, ended today 19th May 2026 was better. 8 minute walk max to train station, 15 mins to bus station/town centre. There are also buses to the Japanese Garden (walk from airport) or NT Trerice (steep walk to the garden but worth it). I plan to return.

I went to this Daish's hotel with my sister on a Glenton 9 days coach tour. We arrived at night but didn't get anything to eat but a Caledonian coach tour that arrived just before us got their dinner. The room that we were allocated had 3 single beds in it and had a balcony that we were not allowed to use in case birds were nesting on it! There were large cracks on the floor of the balcony so it didn't look too safe to stand on anyway. There were large dirty marks on the floor which two were sticky as it looked as if the carpet had been burnt. The shower room was very good but the staff never checked the hand wash dispenser or the loo roll dispenser and we had to ask for these to be replaced but we're given a loo roll which was never placed in the dispenser and put on top of the cistern! There were also large cracks in the outside walls at the back of the hotel and also another balcony which the railings were coming away from the floor of the balcony. The meals had to be pre-ordered the meal before and the dinners were on a 4 night rota. Some of the food was not very good and a number of times when we were leaving the dining room there were plates with a lot of food left on them. On one night there was sweet & sour pork but it did not look like sweet and sour and it was tasteless, to me it was pork stew - chunks of pork and vegetables. I asked one of the staff about the food and was told that Daish's budget is £3 per person per day! The entertainment was good as there singers on at night and also a bingo and a written quiz before the singers started. I know these hotels need to make money but £3.80 for a pint of Pepsi Max is a little bit steep in my eyes! We went to this hotel when there was a heatwave happening in June but although this hotel had air conditioning in their dining room and the entertainment room we never felt it and the staff were sweating a lot too whilst trying to work. Would I go back to Newquay? Yes but not to this hotel.

I’ve just returned from a lovely 5-day stay at Barrowfield Hotel, and it was a truly enjoyable experience. What really made the holiday special was the incredibly friendly and welcoming staff—their positive attitude genuinely made a difference throughout our stay. The hotel is in a great location near the beach, and I loved that the area itself has such a long history—Newquay’s roots as a fishing village and the ancient “Barrowfields” nearby give it a bit of extra character without taking away from that classic seaside holiday feel. A special thank you to Julie and Jack in the bar, who worked tirelessly and always with a smile. Their hard work and great service didn’t go unnoticed and added so much to the atmosphere. Would happily return!
