About Sandy Lodge Hotel Newquay

Hilgrove Road sits close to the heart of Newquay, with the town centre under half a mile away and the Cornish coastline within easy reach for a walk or a day by the water. Sandy Lodge Hotel Newquay makes use of that position, putting guests near the beaches, the harbour and the wider stretch of countryside and cycling routes that surround the town, with the Eden Project also worth the trip out.

The hotel has 69 rooms across three floors, served by a lift, with family rooms and en-suite bathrooms as standard, plus drinks available in room and free WiFi throughout. Breakfast is a particular strength here, generally well-rated, and there's an outdoor seating area and picnic spot for warmer days, along with meeting rooms and business services for those combining work with the seaside. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful, and the beds comfortable, though some rooms show their age and can suffer from noise, so a quiet spot is worth requesting.

Beyond the hotel, Newquay offers golf, fishing, watersports and cycling nearby, along with pubs, restaurants and entertainment within easy walking distance. There's no parking on site, so those arriving by car should plan accordingly, but for a straightforward, well-located base in Newquay at a reasonable price, Sandy Lodge covers the essentials.

Receptionists were friendly and professional - the only plus points. Walls and ceilings very thin , especially the ceiling,so very noisy. Room & bathroom tiny. I very nearly left to go to another hotel ,due to the noise. It was only a 1 night stay ,so endured it. Shower very low power & water took ages to drain. Sink was minute. Nowhere in shower or sink to store soap , shampoo, toothbrush etc. Bathroom was incredibly tiny. The corridors were like being in military barracks - grim. Worse to be honest. Was disappointed that there was no breakfast,as advertised. There was also a pool , hottub etc advertised, but the Mgr said that some adverts are old ,as no longer available. Will not be returning !

Upon arrival greeted by a friendly but scruffilly dressed member of staff. When trying to find our room could already tell the place is very dated and worn out. Then went into our room to find it wasn't any better. Dated worn out carpet with stains to match, scuffed up and stained paintwork. The bathroom obviously hasn't been refurbished in decades further let down by stained crusty towels on a dusty and rusted hanging rail. Relaxing wasn't easy with very poor TV reception and no telephone. Even the tea making facilities were let down by dirty cups and cutlery. The nights already uncomfortable sleep was interrupted by someone trying to get into the room in the early hours. Aswell as cleaning staff letting themselves in over an hour before checkout, was more taken aback that they actually cleaned. Upon checking out the staff at front desk were more interested in chatting with each other rather than customer service. Would have rather have stayed literally anywhere else. AVOID THIS HOTEL

If I could give anyone any advice it would be to stay away! I’ve just spent a weekend here and it’s been the holiday from hell! Nothing but stress from this hotel! Keep away from this hotel unless you want to hear loud snoring from the room next door & every toss and turn, people block your cars in in the car park or park selfishly due to no room so you have to park your car on a street 2 roads away and the staff being as useful as a hole in a bucket! The front doors are locked from 9pm so if you get back later than that you have to call and wait 5 minutes for the staff to let you in/ out!! The rooms pretty standard but the r cleanliness of the bathroom is appalling ( even empty shampoo and body wash bottles from other guests on the floor), the bathroom & bedroom windows are both covered in bird 💩 so the view isn’t to great I genuinely have nothing good to say about this hotel! What a waste of money🙄
