The Kirk at Kildonan
North Ayrshire

On the Isle of Arran's coastline, where the shoreline shifts constantly and seals surface in the water, The Kirk at Kildonan sits as a converted 1910 Arts and Crafts church. Built as a listed building, it's now a single luxury unit within the property, with its own entrance, a king bedroom and ensuite shower room on the ground floor. The open-plan living space centres on a woodburner, with a sofa bed providing flexible sleeping, and a kitchen equipped for cooking rather than heating up takeaways—electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher and the rest of it. Wifi, heating, bed linen and towels come as standard; the owner lives on-site and is available if you need help.
The beach is a few minutes on foot. From there you can watch for seals and sea otters, or walk to Eas-mor and its 103ft waterfall. The garden has a sitting-out area with furniture, shared with other guests at the property. One dog or cat travels free. The accommodation suits two people—couples, friends or those seeking somewhere quiet with exceptional views. Non-smokers only.
Arran itself offers a mix of sandy coves, mountain ridges and working distilleries. Local producers make cheese, chocolate, beer and ice cream; the distillery runs tours. There's cultural life year-round and enough walking to occupy weeks.
