The Old Nunnery and Retreat - The Old Nunnery

North Ayrshire

The Ayrshire coast here is within walking distance of the shore, and Largs—with its shops, restaurants and seafront promenade—is close by. The Old Nunnery sits as a converted property that once served a different purpose entirely, now configured as a substantial rental for groups. It sleeps 24 across nine bedrooms and five bathrooms, with the whole place yours alone.

The layout spreads across two floors. Downstairs holds two living areas, a dining room with a table that seats the group, a well-equipped kitchen, utility room and bar area. Upstairs are the nine bedrooms, ranging from four-posters to kingsize and double beds; some have sofa beds attached for flexibility. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are covered. Outside, a lawned garden includes a private hot tub for six, a wood-burning sauna, and a log cabin with a BBQ—bring your own fuel for the latter.

This works for large celebrations, family gatherings or groups wanting their own space on the coast. Smoking is not permitted. One pet is welcome. Parking is available for six cars.

I just wanted to send a heartfelt thank you for everything you (Alan) did to help make my daughter’s bridal shower at the Old Nunnery so special last weekend. From the very beginning, you were incredibly helpful and accommodating, and you made sure everything ran seamlessly. It took so much stress away knowing we were in such good hands. The house itself was absolutely perfect for the occasion — beautiful, welcoming, and exactly what we had hoped for. Everyone commented on what a wonderful venue it was, and it really helped create such a memorable weekend for our family and friends. Thank you again for all your help and kindness. We truly appreciated it and would not hesitate to return in the future.

Very nice place, bit strange and could do with a little revamp. Just little things like the seating area(mouldy cushions) and a leaking drain, waspinator wouldn't be a bad shout as there's millions of the little buggers. Couldn't use the front hot tub which is a shame as the sun sets were amazing. But all in all we all had a brilliant time there, thanks loads.

Stayed at The Old Nunnery for my daughters 21st. Alan the host was extremely helpful in getting us all settled in 17 guests. Rooms were all decorative, clean and spacious. Massive kitchen, well equipped and a bar area with extra fridge space. Laundry room Hot tub was set in a lovely shed space with bbq. The view out towards Rothesay is beautiful.Even saw dolphins Area was quiet . Would definitely love to go back here.
