Oakfield Cottage

North Yorkshire

View on Google Maps

Robin Hoods Bay clings to the North Yorkshire coast in a tangle of cobbled lanes and slate-roofed buildings that tumble toward the sea. The village's history runs deep—smugglers once used underground tunnels to move contraband from cliff to boat, and those same narrow passages still honeycomb beneath the streets. Today the winding paths connect independent shops, cafés, fish and chip restaurants, and local pubs, with The Laurel Inn within a mile of the cottage.

Oakfield Cottage is a Grade II listed property with the exposed beams and irregular stairs typical of a 17th-century fisherman's home. The lower ground floor holds a compact, well-equipped kitchen with electric cooking and a dining table for four. Above that, a sitting room with a wood burner opens onto the main floor. The first floor has a king bedroom and shower room, while the second floor (reached by a narrow staircase) contains a family bedroom with a double and single bed under vaulted, beamed ceilings; this room looks out over rooftops toward the beach and cliffs. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are included. Access involves a steep bank to the entrance. No smoking inside. A public car park operates nearby at additional cost.

The cottage suits couples and families wanting to explore a working village with genuine character, where the geography—the clifftop position, the descent to the beach, the warren of historic passages—is part of the stay itself.
