Paper Mill Cottage

Paper Mill Cottage is a converted barn set in the grounds of a Tudor house, arranged entirely on one level. You walk into an open-plan living space with a woodburner, dining area and kitchen equipped for full self-catering—there's an electric cooker, dishwasher and washer-dryer. Two double bedrooms follow the same unfussy layout: one with an ensuite shower, the other with a bathroom offering a bath and separate shower. Underfloor heating runs throughout, and the essentials—bed linen, towels, wi-fi and heating—are included; there's also an initial supply of wood for the fire.

An enclosed patio with garden furniture looks out over a field, and you have private parking for two cars. The location sits at the foot of Sutton Bank on the edge of the North York Moors, making it a base for walking and cycling. Thirsk is a few miles away, known for its James Herriot connections, and a pub and restaurant are only a short walk. From here you can reach Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall, the ruins at Rievaulx and Byland, Fountains Abbey, or venture into York about 24 miles south. The property is for adult guests only (no children under 18) and operates as a smoke-free space.
