Saddle Room - West House

North Yorkshire

Groups and families looking for a spacious base in the Yorkshire Dales will find West House fits the bill. The property sleeps 10 across five bedrooms—two doubles with ensuite walk-in showers on the ground floor, two super king doubles with bath and shower on the first floor, and a bunk room for younger guests. Four bathrooms and separate toilet mean mornings run smoothly. A hot tub for five sits in the gardens, and one dog travels free; larger groups often appreciate having the whole place to themselves.

Ground floor living centres on a large open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting area with smart TV. The kitchen is properly equipped for cooking proper meals—electric range, double oven, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer included—rather than holiday cottage shortcuts. Bed linen, towels and wifi are covered. The location is the real draw: the property stands on the edge of The Forbidden Corner, the eccentric estate attraction that appeals to both children and adults. Leyburn town is nearby for everyday needs.

Check-in is from 15:00 and checkout by 10:00. The house is non-smoking throughout. Note that the garden has steps.

This is a perfect example of how you turn a wonderful heritage building into a restaurant and bar and keep it feeling like it's still the original vibe. The place was an old stable and you can tell from the decor and the theme. The funniest part is the signage on the toilets, albeit it a little insensitive for people with a weak sense of humor. The staff were lovely and the service was great, to say it's in the middle of nowhere it's also very reasonably priced.

Lovely restaurant with lovely staff. We visited after spending an afternoon at the Forbidden Corner next door. The restaurant is a converted stable block and looks very classy. The food was amazing. We went for T-bone pork, which was a good size, moist, and tasty. It came with a crispy piece of crackling. The waitresses looked after us, making sure we had everything we needed. Service was quick. The horsey theme was great. Toilets were clean. It was a great meal in a very nice setting.

Glen K - Silent Takeover

Stayed here while visiting The Forbidden Corner. Beautiful location and building. There was also plenty of parking on site. Check in was easy and all staff friendly and professional. The room we stayed in was stunning, well looked after and decorated. Was incredibly quiet and peaceful in the evening. Breakfast was also included which was top quality! There is a bar/restaurant on site too (which is where you have breakfast) which is just as stunning and well presented as the rest of the venue. We ate here for dinner in the evening, price point is great for the high quality of food on offer. Again staff were lovely. All in all of you're looking for a quality country retreat you can't go wrong with this place, highly recommended!

Diners like this restaurant's delicious and faultless food, with many highlighting the exceptional lamb, Sunday roast, and gluten-free options. They also mention the beautiful setting in a converted stable with a great atmosphere and appreciate the friendly, attentive staff who provide excellent service.
