St Robert’s Chantry

North Yorkshire

View on Google Maps

St Robert's Chantry is a listed cottage built into the steep terrain of Robin Hood's Bay, where narrow lanes and stone steps connect centuries-old buildings down to the shoreline. The property occupies three floors, each accessible by its original pine staircase. The ground floor is a single open space combining kitchen, dining and living areas, where a Victorian cast-iron fireplace provides warmth and character; an electric cooker and microwave handle everyday cooking. Upstairs, the first-floor double bedroom has a feature fireplace and adjoins a wet room with shower. The second floor contains twin beds in a room with dormer windows overlooking the village below.

The cottage sits within a mile of the beach and the National Trust's Old Coastguard Station. Pubs, fish and chips shops, cafés and restaurants are all within walking distance down the cobbled alleyways. The village itself is compact and historic, its character defined by low ceilings, hand-made roof tiles and the tight cluster of buildings that have survived for centuries. A parking permit for one car comes with the booking, with loading access at the front door. Electricity is included; fuel for the open fire can be bought locally. Children under 6 are not able to stay here. The steep topography and narrow passageways mean this suits visitors comfortable with steps and compact interiors rather than those needing level-access accommodation.
