The Old Back Kitchen at Bonfield Ghyll Farm
North Yorkshire
View on Google MapsThe Old Back Kitchen at Bonfield Ghyll Farm is a converted 18th-century building on a working sheep and beef farm high on the North York Moors, part of the National Trust's Bransdale Estate near Helmsley. Everything needed for a break is supplied: electricity, bed linen, towels, and in summer the fuel for the private hot tub for two. The property sits at the end of a rough farm track with no mains connection, neighbours, or distractions—just open moorland and woodland walks from the door.
Inside, a galleried bedroom with a 4ft 6in double bed sits under the rafters above a living and dining room with a wood-fired stove, exposed beams, and original 18th-century features including a Victorian cooking range. The kitchen has a gas cooker, microwave and fridge; a shower room completes the layout. The space has low doorways throughout. Access is through a shared garden area with sitting-out space, BBQ and firepit. One car can park on site, and there is bike storage. One well-behaved dog stays free of charge, though must be kept on a lead in this sheep country. Smoking is not permitted.
