About The Owl Hawnby
Walk into The Owl Hawnby and you're shown up to one of just nine en-suite rooms, simply comfortable rather than grand, with drinks brought up to you if you'd rather not head back down to the bar. It's a small, personal set-up, with 24 hour reception on hand whatever time you arrive.
Downstairs is very much the heart of the place: a restaurant and bar known for hearty, well-made food, including a Sunday roast worth timing your visit around, alongside a good range of beers, all at fair prices. Breakfast is included, staff are attentive, and the garden and dog-friendly rooms make it an easy stop if you're travelling with a pet. The setting, up on Hill Top near York, comes with proper views over the surrounding countryside.
It's well placed for the North York Moors National Park, with walking and cycling routes close by, fishing and horse riding available nearby, and free on-site parking for anyone arriving by car.
What guests say
Made a spontaneous decision to walk in the baking 28 degree heat to The Owl in Hawnby for a refreshing pint. A beautifully decorated stone hotel with immaculate gardens, The Owl boasts plenty of outdoor seating with breath-taking views across the valley. We received a warm and friendly welcome and were served promptly. While enjoying our drinks we saw all the delicious food being delivered to other tables and ordered some for ourselves. We were not disappointed~ what a delicious and relaxing impromptu meal. We could not fault the service, prices, food or location. Outstanding! Highly recommended!

Didn't stay so unable to review room. Food (see photo) was superb and just a little different, and service extremely friendly, especially as we just turned up at around 5pm on a Thursday. Oh,and the views are stunning!! Excellent!!!

We visited yesterday after a trip to Rievaulx Abbey with our 4 year old twins. The location is stunning, the views are amazing and if it had been just a bit warmer we would definitely have sat outside. I was actually quite shocked to read some of the reviews, as the food we had was absolutely delicious. I had the pork roast and my husband had the beef. We both thought it was one of the best roasts we’ve ever had. Our son loved his pasta and finished the lot. Our desserts were also excellent, we had the tiramisu and the panna cotta. The kids had a scoop of vanilla ice cream which was super creamy. The service was brilliant and everyone was really helpful and great with the kids. We will definitely be coming back again. Thank you

Stayed at the Owl this past weekend and highly recommend! The food and wine were genuinely excellent, lots of choice and thoughtful dishes. Proper flavour, good ingredients but also nothing too fussy. The staff were so lovely; warm, attentive, and really made the stay feel personal without ever being overbearing. They had great recommendations for the local area. Our room was cosy and comfortable, exactly what you want after a long walk over the hills. We brought our dog, who was warmly welcomed which always makes travel/stays easier. Between the scenery, the fireplace evenings, and the relaxed but attentive atmosphere, The Owl at Hawnby has become an instant favourite. Will definitely be back.
