Family friendly camping and touring site in rural Northumberland, just ten minutes from Hexham and Hadrian's Wall.

About Sunniside House Camping

Tucked into the Tyne Valley between the North Pennines AONB and Northumberland National Park, Sunniside House offers straightforward camping with stellar views across rolling farmland to distant Pennine peaks. This small, family-run site a mile from Acomb village keeps things simple—grass pitches, basic facilities including showers and toilets, a communal fridge, and enough space between tents to actually feel away from it all. In spring, younger campers might help feed the lambs; the rest of the year, Hadrian's Wall beckons just two miles on foot or a short drive for rambles along the old Roman frontier.

The site itself is peaceful rather than polished—don't expect frills—but the location more than compensates. St Oswald's Church in nearby Lee and the Battle of Heavenfield site at Chollerford offer history buffs their fix, while the local pub a mile away delivers proper home-cooked meals. Disposable barbecues are permitted in designated areas, or rent a firepit and buy kiln-dried wood on site. Just remember: no dogs allowed, and bring your own fuel at your peril.

We stayed in our campervan and were made to feel very welcome. The breeze eased the heatwave temperatures and the view and site were magnificent! Provision of a hot shower was a luxury when we’re used to our little shower in the campervan! I see some wish to have hot water provided to the outside sink however, a hotel is best If this is a requirement 😄 The accessible fridge freezer was an added bonus. We shall definitely return 🙏

Visited here with my running club. Met by the owner and showed around the site. Had a selection of great campervan pitches to choose from. Great camping fields and a seperate one was opened up for our little band of runners to keep us in a little (quiet) group. The views were absolutely amazing. Chickens and sheep (and horses I think) are in joining fields. Good, clean showers and toilets. Really well worth a visit. Friendly couple who clearly love what they do.

Warmly welcomed to this lovely small site. Great views even when the weather wasnt so great. Campervan pitches sadly had slightly limited views due to privacy screening, which I understand between pitches, but looking towards the valley it would be nice to not be obscured. Also the astro turf badly desintigrating means loads of black beads getting into everything. Definitely feel this site is perhaps better suited for tents, although site is on a slight slope, views are uninterrupted from camping fields. Toilets & showers basic but absolutely fine. Shame no hot water in the washing up area, but handy to have a fridge/freezer on site for everyone to use. All in all, we had a good experience. Perfect for a couple of nights. Fairly priced and in an excellent location with a first class pub/restaurant The Rat Inn within walking distance. 4/5 stars!
