Hadrian's Wall, Lindisfarne, Alnwick Castle and Kielder Forest Park all sit within reasonable driving distance of Birch Cottage, a converted shepherd's dwelling on an active farm deep in Northumberland. The Scottish Borders are equally accessible, as are Newcastle and Edinburgh further afield. Otterburn and Jedburgh, both about 15 minutes away, handle everyday shopping needs.

The cottage has two bedrooms—a four-poster double and a room with two singles—and one bathroom with a shower over the bath. Downstairs, a living room with beamed ceilings and an inglenook multi-fuel burner sits alongside a dining room and a kitchen equipped to cook from scratch: gas cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer are all here. An enclosed garden with seating looks out over the moor. Wifi, electricity, bed linen and towels come as standard, and there is parking on site. One well-behaved pet can stay at no extra cost. The property is entirely yours for the duration of your stay.

What sets this place apart is the live wildlife camera feed to the cottage's television—watch barn owls, badgers and other animals moving across the farm and reserve without leaving your armchair. The surrounding landscape is rich in wildlife and prized by walkers. An EV charging point is available if you need it.
