Photo: Brinkburn Northumberland

This stone gatehouse once served the manor at Brinkburn Priory. Built as a lodge keeper's residence, it retains period character throughout—exposed stonework, original features, and a wood burner that anchors the ground-floor living and dining space. The kitchen is equipped for proper cooking: electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher and all the basics. Upstairs, two bedrooms sleep four: one has a zip-and-link super king (or two singles on request), the other a standard king. A single bathroom with bath, shower and heated towel rail serves both.

The cottage sits within 35 acres of woodland and grounds shared with four neighbouring properties, all part of the restored Brinkburn estate in the Coquet Valley. You have your own south-facing garden with patio and furniture, and direct access to walking routes through the grounds; river fishing is available 500 yards away. One dog stays free, though it should be kept on a lead in the shared areas. Parking for two cars is on site. Bed linen, towels, wi-fi and heating are included; initial logs for the burner come with the booking, with more available to buy. The property is no-smoking.

This works well for small families wanting rural peace without isolation—the River Coquet and priory ruins are right beside you, and Morpeth is within reach for supplies or days out.

Booked a 4 night stay to take advantage of the fishing. The staff could not have been more helpful. The accommodation was dog friendly and of a really high standard in a lovely setting. Would highly recommend.

Very nice, spacious and well appointed cottage in the historic surroundings of Brinkburn estate. Good location close to Rothbury, Cragside, Simonside Hills and the coast.

We had a lovely Wedding for my daughter and son in law exactly a week ago at Brinkburn. The venue is beautiful and the Priory stunning but what made the experience special was the lovely staff. Faultless. Would thoroughly recommend.

Loved the history, tranquility inside the chapel making it a perfect setting for the wedding. So beautifully maintained, gardens also made a lovely place for photos
