Couples and small families will find Bill's House works well as a self-contained base on Elwick Farm, near Belford on the Northumberland coast. The cottage has two bedrooms – a kingsize and a twin – plus two bathrooms, with space for a travel cot if needed. One well-behaved dog can come along. Everything is yours alone: the whole property, the enclosed garden with barbecue and seating, and parking for two cars.

Downstairs, the living room has a TV and electric fire. The kitchen is properly equipped for cooking, with a dishwasher, electric cooker, fridge and microwave. A utility room holds the washing machine and tumble dryer. Upstairs, the bedrooms are straightforward; a shower room serves that floor. Electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi are all included. No smoking indoors.

The farm's position on the coast puts Bamburgh beach within easy reach, and the Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve is on the doorstep for walking and wildlife watching. Reay & Comber lies nearby if you want a particular landmark to navigate from.

It's 2-3mile away from anywhere. Can't walk to a pub or village. Very peaceful great views. Very well equipped in the kitchen. Only grumble is the bed is too hard for us and the quilt isn't big enough for the size of the bed.

What a lovely place to stay, the cottage is well equipped with everything you could need and comfortable beds. It's so peaceful, the view from the kitchen window is great -watching the sheep, lambs, cows, hares and various birds, including birds of prey. Gorgeous sunsets. Plenty of things to see and do in the area, not far from wonderful beaches, will definitely return.

Our stay at 'Six the Square' was fantastic. The cottage was incredibly spacious, easily accommodating four adults and two toddlers with plenty of room to spare. Waking up to a peaceful view of the cows from the breakfast bar was a real highlight. The host, Christine, was a great communicator and gave us some excellent local recommendations. The area itself is wonderful, peaceful and with many beautiful beaches just a short drive away, including the stunning Ross Sands. We couldn't have asked for a better first trip to the area and wouldn't hesitate to return and stay in the cottages.
