Northumberland

Vindolanda and Housesteads are minutes away by car, and Hadrian's Wall itself lies just over a mile from Felbridge Cottage. For anyone drawn to Roman Britain or serious walking country, this detached cottage sits on the right side of Northumberland—surrounded by farmland and woodland, but positioned to explore some of the region's most significant archaeology and landscapes without straying far.
The cottage sleeps two in a king-size bedroom on the first floor, with a bathroom holding both bath and shower. Downstairs is a single open-plan space: living area with Freeview TV and wood-burning stove, dining space, and a kitchen equipped for proper cooking (electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher, full-size fridge and freezer). Heating is provided by LPG central heating, with an initial load of wood for the stove included. Bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are covered; electricity is metered. The property has its own water supply from a spring. Parking for two cars is on site, and one pet stays free.
A sitting-out area with garden furniture overlooks the grounds. A stream and pond lie 275 yards away. The farm setting means there are no smoking restrictions to impose on the space—it's a no-smoking property by choice. A highchair and stairgate can be provided on request if needed.

Rented the bunkhouse for a birthday walking weekend and discovered it to be is a very sad state of disrepair, cold and uncleaned. The rooms were mouldy , buckets sat on windowsills to collect drips, there were bulbs missing and the fire alarms were without batteries. There was no heating. I asked our host, Val Gibson, to switch the heating on and after a few attempts of coming in to see to the boiler she soon gave up leaving us without heating for the weekend. The WiFi doesn't reach to the bunkhouse and can only be used when standing directly outside Vals house. The decking is rotten and has metal rails cable tied on to it as a backup. Guests should be aware there is no phone signal. No handsoap was provided and the showers and toilets had not been cleaned. Feel that I have been ripped off paying £500.00 for my birthday weekend to stay there.

My review is very post dated. Our large multi generational family booked the cottages and the bunk rooms for a family winter wedding in nearby Langley Castle a few years ago. The whole accommodation was absolutely perfect for our needs! It was spotlessly clean, comfortable, well equipped and very HAUNTED. We spent 3 wonderful days here and had the most beautiful walk out to Hadrian's Wall the morning after our nephew''s wedding. As there was no one booked into any of the accommodation on the day of our departure our host gave us time to relax and enjoy the most amazing surroundings before and after the wedding. Highly recommend!
