Haven Cottage

Northumberland

Lindisfarne is cut off from the mainland twice a day by the tide, leaving Haven Cottage on an island that feels genuinely remote despite being just off the Northumberland coast. The Grade II listed former fishermen's cottage sits near the harbour, with the 16th-century castle visible from the grounds and the ruins of the 7th-century priory within easy reach on foot. Walking and birdwatching are the main draws here; the island also has long sandy beaches and extensive historical information, including a collection of postcards showing how the place has changed over the decades.

The cottage is one bedroom with a double bed, plus a Z-bed for a third guest, and a single bathroom. Downstairs is open plan, with a kitchen equipped for self-catering (electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher), a dining area and living space with Freeview TV and DVD player. Electricity, bed linen and wifi are included. There is decking with garden furniture and a shared barbecue outside, and private parking on site. No smoking.

The mainland has Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Castle and Gardens within driving distance, plus Seahouses for boat trips to the Farne Islands to see seals and seabirds. Local takeaway meals are available to order in.
