Lee Cottage
Northumberland
Lee Cottage sits on Holy Island, where the causeway floods twice a day, turning the island into genuine isolation. This Grade II listed fisherman's home opens onto ground-floor living space with a kitchen equipped for proper cooking, a wood-burning stove for warmth, and access to a shared garden with decking and barbecue. Upstairs, a double bedroom sleeps two, with a Z-bed tucked away for a third guest. The shower room and essentials like wi-fi, electricity and bed linen are included.
The island itself is the draw: Lindisfarne Castle dominates the skyline from its rocky perch, and the ruins of the 7th-century priory—where the Lindisfarne Gospels were made—are within walking distance. Long sandy beaches and the working harbour are close by. On the mainland, Bamburgh Castle, Seahouses for boat trips to the Farne Islands, and Alnwick Castle and Gardens are all within reach. The cottage works as a genuine retreat for two, though it can accommodate a child or friend on the Z-bed. Smoking is not permitted.
