Old Mill Holidays - The Hemmel

The Hemmel is a ground-floor cottage at West Moneylaws in Northumberland, sleeping four across two bedrooms and one bathroom. Stone walls, exposed oak beams and a wood burner create the backbone of the interior, which opens onto gardens where the owner keeps alpacas and sheep. This is a private whole property rental with its own parking for two cars.

Inside, a king-size four-poster bed dominates the first bedroom, which has an ensuite shower room; the second bedroom contains zip-and-link single beds that combine into a super-king if needed. The ground-floor living space is open-plan, with a kitchen fitted for actual cooking—electric oven, induction hob, dishwasher and all the basics—and a separate dining area. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included, along with initial fuel for the wood burner. There is a step in the garden. One dog is welcome. No smoking.

The location suits couples wanting space and comfort, friends gathering for a break, or a small family without very young children (though a travel cot is available). Cornhill-on-Tweed lies just across the border.
