Newbiggin by the Sea sits on Northumberland's coast, a working fishing village with a long promenade, independent shops and cafes, and a notably flat shoreline for walks. The Carriage House stands just 250 metres inland, close enough to reach the beach in minutes but set back in the quieter part of town near St John the Baptist Church. It's a whole property to yourselves, arranged over two floors with room for up to six guests.
The ground floor holds a kitchen with electric cooking, a fridge and freezer, a coffee machine and washer-dryer, plus a bedroom with a double bed and a separate toilet. Upstairs there's a living room with a 55-inch Smart TV and a large sofa bed that doubles as a second sleeping space, a second double bedroom, and a shower room with a walk-in shower. Essentials like electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included; heating is gas central. On-road parking is available, and there's a bike store if you arrive on two wheels. The property is entirely no smoking.
One dog can stay free of charge. The property works well for families—a travel cot, highchair and stairgate are provided—and for groups of friends seeking a seaside base. Morpeth town centre is within reach by local bus, as are further north Alnwick Castle and the Coquet estuary, and south towards Tynemouth and Whitley Bay.

The cottage is a well laid out and warm building, with a very large double master ensuite room and a smaller twin ensuite (the latter was ideal for two children, ours were 12 & 8). Kitchen was well equipped and had everything you would expect and a few extras. Cottage was equipped with lots of different games which were great for occupying the kids. Owners made a real effort to make us welcome in the cottage and were on hand to assist with any issues that arise. In fact they went over and above what we have previously expected - excellent hosts. There was a welcome pack that included: fresh flowers; small milk; bottle of red wine; and a homemade cake. The cottage also had ample toilet roll, kitchen roll, cling film , kitchen foil, salt & pepper and teabags (for a week stay, which we have not always found to be the case in some cottages). We found the location was an excellent jump off point for exploring Northumberland - 10 mins away from Morpeth and it's train station (which we used to get into Newcastle). We would recommend the Life Science Centre in Newcastle for a kids day out. Other places we visited that were good for kids were Whitehouse Farm Centre and Morpeth Family Golf Centre, with it's fun pirate themed putting. I would flag that we were a little unimpressed with Alnwick Gardens, which we've previously loved going to, with a lot of the instillations looking very tired. However, I'd give the poison garden staff a special mention - they were excellent guides. Only things guests should be aware of, which I'm sure has been mentioned before is that there is a wee walk around the hosts house to access the hot tub, but we did not find this a bother and we had exclusive use of this hot tub for the whole week. Additionally, there is a little bit of road/traffic noise from the street, which is more noticeable when abed. However, none of us found that this detracted from our stay. I suspect that we would definitely revisit this cottage if we were visiting the area again and there was availability.

Just home from The Carraige House and we had a fantastic week. Well situated for visiting coastal towns, metro centre and Beamish. Dawn was available on arrival to welcome us to this lovely property. The welcome pack , especially the homemade cake was very much appreciated. We all slept well enjoying the comfortable beds and the cozy setting after busy days exploring the area. The hot tub was an added bonus. Wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the property and thank you to the wonderful hosts

We had a very enjoyable week at this well appointed holiday home. The cottage is light and spacious with all the necessary facilities and all mod cons. Dawn and Joey were very friendly and helpful and we really appreciated Dawn’s delicious home made cake! The hot tub was a welcome bonus, and overall we would not to hesitate to recommend the Carriage House, which is ideally located for exploring the beautiful unspoilt local beaches and historic houses and castles.

The cottage was lovely, well equipped. Beds extremely comfortable. It was well situated for many attractions. The owner Dawn was very helpful and provided a welcome pack with lovely cake. The negatives were - the road alongside the cottage was very noisy from 6am with lorries, tractors and general traffic. It was a cut-through not just quiet village traffic, so if you are a light sleeper, take ear plugs. Getting out of the drive was also awkward. If you can get past the negatives it was a very comfortable stay.
