About The William IV

For anyone happy to trade hotel polish for pub character, The William IV on Quebec Road in Norwich fits the bill. It suits visitors after a straightforward base for exploring the city rather than a resort-style stay, with just five rooms kept simple and low-key above the bar.

The restaurant downstairs has a relaxed, sociable feel, and breakfast is included each morning along with free Wi-Fi throughout. The bar itself draws a lively crowd, so this is a better match for guests who don't mind some noise and bustle than for those wanting a quiet retreat. The property also hosts weddings, and luggage storage is available for those arriving before check-in or leaving bags after checkout.

Free on-site parking makes it an easy stop for those driving into Norwich, and the location is close to both Norwich Cathedral and Norwich Castle Museum, putting the city's main sights within easy reach on foot.

Really lovely, welcoming staff, always helpful, chatty and with a smile. We have not been to the bar downstairs much, apart from for the breakfast: excellent quality of sausages and bacon for those who like this, but also everything else and loved it that there was a choice of yoghurt. Great coffee! The room, a triple, was clean, good size and had everything you might wish for, coffee machine, with selection of coffees hot chocolate and teas. Mineral water, few snacks. The beds were very comfortable. Air-conditioning for the hot days, brilliant. The bathroom was spacious and a bit dated, but again, clean and had everything you might need. The location was perfect for us, away from any busy roads, quiet, but walking distance to the town centre, a stroll downhill to then climb back - fun! There was a bit of noise when other guests were going up and down the stairs, and from neighbouring room, just awareness of movement and chat, I am a light sleeper so this was a negative for me. While there, the staircase was being repainted, not at all a problem, we were never made to feel we were an inconvenience when going up and down, and clearly, still a plan to keep the place looking clean and cared for. Plenty of parking spaces.

Had a great weekend stay here. Staff were very welcoming 👍 Room was spacious and clean and breakfast was spot on. Not too far out to walk into town, just far enough to be nice and quiet. Would definitely recommend 👌

Fabulous little independent pub. Can't think of anything negative to say. Landlords, fabulous, staff fantastic, rooms perfect, locals so friendly. And now Norwich has Uber making it easier to explore Norwich 😍

The staff are very good, but, I booked expecting to have my evening meal at the pub but even though all advertising says that food is available it is not. They stopped evening meals six months ago. If I had known this I would not have booked.
