A budget-minded 12-room B&B in Norwich, handy for travellers wanting free parking and an easy walk to the station and city centre.

About Riverside Hotel

Riverside Hotel suits visitors who want a straightforward base near the middle of Norwich rather than a polished getaway, with staff on hand to point you towards the station or the shops. The 12 rooms are simple, and it's worth knowing that some have been reported as tired, with a musty smell that a few guests have noticed, so this is one for travellers prioritising location and price over plush surroundings.

Facilities stretch further than the size of the place might suggest, with a restaurant and bar, an indoor swimming pool, gym, and spa or sauna for anyone wanting to unwind after a day out. Breakfast is served on-site, free WiFi is available throughout, and there's a garden for quieter moments. Business services, a concierge desk and a lift add convenience for both work trips and shorter stays, and pets are welcome.

Free on-site parking makes driving in from further afield straightforward, while the walk into central Norwich and to the train station is easy enough for those arriving without a car. It works well as a no-fuss stopover for exploring the city, provided expectations for the rooms themselves stay modest.

Great little budget hotel. I was in the annexe on Aspland RD, on the ground floor. Access was by 2 door codes and it all worked well, codes were sent via email and WhatsApp. Double Room was small but very clean and the bed was comfy. Ensuite bathroom also very clean. Towels and shampoo and soap all provided. Would've been nice to have soap and shower gel in pump dispensers rather than individually wrapped sachets to reduce amounts of plastic waste. Shower good, slight leak under shower door (room 9). Room also had a kettle, tea, coffee, sugar and milk. Would definitely use again, excellent for the price and in a great location right next to the train station.

Ah yes, the hotel that boldly answers the question: what if comfort, cleanliness, and basic human dignity were all optional extras? From the moment you step into the lobby, you’re greeted by a rich, lingering aroma of stale cigarette smoke—less “welcoming ambience,” more “ashtray that’s seen things.” It clings to everything with impressive determination: the curtains, the carpets, possibly even your soul. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to become a cigarette, this is your chance. The décor leans heavily into the “abandoned attic” aesthetic, with a generous layering of dust on every available surface. Run your finger along a shelf and you could probably carbon-date it. It’s not so much unclean as it is… historically preserved. As for the walls, they’re apparently made from recycled tissue paper. Every sound travels through with crystal clarity. You’ll become intimately acquainted with your neighbours’ life choices—particularly their nighttime enthusiasm. Think less “peaceful retreat” and more “unintentional audience participation.” Earplugs are not provided, presumably because management wants you to fully appreciate the immersive experience. All in all, a perfect stay if you enjoy secondhand smoke, archaeological dust, and a front-row seat to other people’s private lives—whether you asked for it or not. Would I return? Only if I’d misplaced all sense of smell, hearing, and self-respect.

I wanted a dark and quiet room for one and was allocated an attic room up a very narrow staircase. To be fair I could have had a double room on the ground floor, near the general kitchen, for the same price. but thought it wouldn't be quiet so took the attic. I got used to the tiny shower, basin, and loo in a tiny corner, low pole to hang clothes in the tiny room with no wardrobe or drawers for clothes, but the banging from the adjoining room and its noisy, probably drunk, occupant kept me awake for 2 out of the three nights I had booked. I was actually scared as I thought the occupant may be an employee and could know the doorcode to my room. Was glad to leave.

Yes location is good very handy from the train station and near the river 10 minute walk to city centre , I had a small single room at the top of the hotel roof area , very basic, bathroom area ceiling came down very low so if you were tall likely you would have to lower your head also sink in a slightly awkward position to get to , bed was ok reasonably comtable , stairs were abit awkward and steep so someone with mobility problems would be awkward , plus it's near main road so quite noisy , no breakfast included but was ok with that , if you want a basic room it's ok for the price but if you want more home comforts I would suggest booking elsewear
