About Portsonachan Lodges
Portsonachan Lodges claims a spectacular perch on the shores of Loch Awe, where self-catering cabins sleep up to six and come with their own private hot tubs overlooking the water. The open-plan living spaces are well-appointed with fitted kitchens and comfortable seating areas, while bedrooms include ensuite facilities and all linens. Outside, private decking extends your living space into the stunning Highland scenery – perfect for wildlife spotting or simply watching the light change across the loch.
Guests consistently praise the knockout views and friendly staff, though some note the accommodations can feel a little neglected in places. The lodges welcome dogs year-round, so your four-legged companion can join you on countryside rambles, and when you tire of cooking there's a hotel restaurant serving locally sourced food right next door. Fishing, cycling and horse riding are all within easy reach, while the village of Dalmally (20 minutes' drive) provides essentials.

What visitors say
Stunning loch side location. The dining conservatory overlooks Loch Awe. Great, friendly service, nothing was too much trouble. They were very versatile and often multitasking Food was delicious, warm and well prepared, just what you need after a day of exploring. We read about the water being peaty and slightly tainted brown because of it, but it wasn't an issue. The hotel provides bottled water for drinking and toothbrushing. The hotel is old (1800s) and has lots of character and charm. It’s not a luxury hotel, but it doesn't pretend to be. Great location, we spent time exploring the surrounding area and taking in the beautiful scenery around Loch Awe, Kilchurn Castle is definitely worth a visit. The peaceful atmosphere and spectacular views created the perfect setting for a relaxing break. We will be back! We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be returning in the future.

The best thing about the hotel is the location - right on the lochside with with beautiful views. The next best thing is the food - the garlic mushrooms on sourdough were the best I've ever had and the freshly made fish pie was delicious. The chef is seriously good. The next best thing is the service - everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. The bedroom was spotlessly clean. We will definitely be back.

We had a lovely stay at Portsonachan Hotel & Lodges. The location is absolutely stunning, right on the banks of Loch Awe with breathtaking scenery all around. It’s peaceful, relaxing and perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle. The lodge was comfortable and cosy, and we especially enjoyed the beautiful views and wildlife around the area. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay and they really do their best to make everyone feel welcome. It’s a cheaper place to stay, so you do pay for what you get, but for the price it offers good value. The meals were okay and there was always something to enjoy. Like many older Highland hotels, parts could do with a little updating, but the charm, scenery and peaceful atmosphere more than make up for it. Im a bit bothered about the other reviews, id definitely take no notice of them , this hotel is very cheap , considering other hotels charge up to £200 for one night ! Without the beautiful veiws!! this is a comfortable homley hotel with staff who do thier upmost best to please and make your stay as welcoming as possible , remember this hotel is an amazing price and we will deffo be back , 😀 If you’re looking for a quiet Scottish getaway surrounded by nature without spending a fortune, this is a lovely place to stay. Right in the middle of many places to visit, you definitely cant go wrong because its really a bargin price to stay

Poor experience signing in (waited 2 hours). New shower not providing any reasonable pressure and/or hot water. Central heating wasn't working. Food choice on set dinner menu only had 3 choices, one was vegetarian, another was salmon and then cheekily steak at £12.50 as a supplement🤑. To make matters worse the salmon was dry🥴. We were advised on arrival that the breakfast was continental (in Scotland a cold climate🫣). What kind of continental breakfast doesn't include cold meats and cheese etc. We were offered sliced tin fruit, cereal, juices, yoghurt and jams along with tea or coffee. Only 2 thin slices of toast. Staff tried there best but more often than bought there was only 1 person serving. Great views by the way but doesn't compensate in any way for all the issues mentioned. Post Reply comments We did not arrive early as the owner says, it was after 2:30pm and it was after 4:30pm before the upgraded room stated on gift voucher was made up. The electric fire was not requested by us and can only assume that as the central heating didn't work properly it was put in to take the cold out of the room. No croissants were provided at our breakfast. As we thankfully were only booked in for 1 night the problem with the heating and hot water were notified to reception on check out. Please get your facts correct when responding to reviews.
