Mingro

Orkney Islands

Stronsay is an island of bays—miles of empty sandy beaches ring this small Orkney landmass, and Mingro sits right beside one of them. The cottage is a traditional stone building on Rothiesholm Beach, where at high tide the sea reaches almost to the back door. The setting is genuinely remote: you'll need two ferries to get here from the Scottish mainland, or a flight to the island followed by a short journey to the cottage. That distance is deliberate. There is no TV, no Wi-Fi, and no modern distractions—just a place to walk the beach, read, and think.

The whole property is yours alone. One bedroom with a double bed, one bathroom with bath and shower, and a living room with a multi-fuel burner occupy the ground floor. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge and washing machine. Patio doors open onto an enclosed garden with seating and a patio. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included, along with fuel for the burner to get you started. One car can park on site.

Rothiesholm is one of three notable bays on Stronsay; St Catherine's Bay and Mill Bay—home to a bird reserve—are also nearby. Dogs are welcome and stay free. The cottage suits anyone looking to genuinely disconnect for a week or two.
