About Tree Hotel at Iffley

An in-house Indian restaurant is the thing people remember most about Tree Hotel at Iffley, a small nine-room hotel spread across two floors on Tree Lane in Oxford. Rooms here run larger than average and come with en-suite bathrooms, drinks in the room and family options for those travelling with children, though some parts of the property show their age and could do with freshening up.

Alongside the restaurant, there's a bar stocked with a broad range of drinks, a snack bar, garden and outdoor seating, plus breakfast and room service for guests who'd rather not venture out. Free WiFi, 24-hour reception, meeting rooms and free on-site parking round out the practical side of things, making it a straightforward base for both short stays and longer visits.

The location puts the River Thames and Iffley Lock within easy reach, alongside Christ Church and the Ashmolean Museum for those keen to explore the city. A golf course, pubs, bars and further restaurants are also nearby, giving guests plenty of options once they step outside.

Staff are polite and courteous. Room we stopped in was clean tidy large and modern freshly decorated even had razor and toothbrush. Tiny details count. bar serves wide range of drinks. Part of hotel is an Indian restaurant where we ate and the food was very nice. Short walk to canal which takes you directly to oxford, 35 minute walk max.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it’s important to warn others to be extremely cautious before booking this hotel, as I found the advertising and photographs to be highly misleading. The images online bear little resemblance to the current condition of the property. The hotel is clearly undergoing refurbishment, but this is not reflected in the marketing. Guests should expect to stay in what feels like an active building site, with carpets half ripped up, paint on carpets and plug sockets, visible iron burn marks, and refurbishment work that appears unfinished. Even the areas that have been redecorated were completed to a poor standard and do not justify the premium prices being charged. The exterior was equally disappointing, with what appeared to be months’ worth of rubbish or possible fly-tipping in the car park, creating a very poor first impression. The room itself lacked basic conveniences, including properly positioned plug sockets, mirrors, and an iron, making even simple tasks frustrating. Breakfast was also extremely poor and, unfortunately, inedible. It’s such a shame because this is a beautiful village, but this hotel falls far short of the expectations created by its advertising. Until the refurbishment is genuinely complete and accurately represented online, I would strongly recommend booking elsewhere. In my opinion, the Mercure next door offers far better value and a much more honest representation of what you’re paying for. Please be very cautious before booking if you’re relying on the photos shown online.

Booked two nights, room was lovely. Although the premises are under refurbishment every effort was made to make our stay a happy one. The authentic Bangladesh restaurant food was delicious and very good portion size, well worth it. Give it a try, would stay again.

service reasonable enough but from.then.on awful, the whole place appears to be in a very very slow refurbishment. there's paint all over the carpets and windows. the room.was pretty small and had a bed that must have been years old and actually tilted to one side.. terrible nights sleep. shower isn't even mains, its an electric .. in a hotel? serious... Itvwas £80 and I was desperate.. saw it advertised for £117 later.. yiu can do sooo much better for that money
