What visitors say
Went on a fabulous tour led by Jim! What a knowledgeable and funny guy! We learned a lot and had a great time. Super clean facility from bathrooms to the cafe. We even had some delicious cheese scones with clotted cream and ham before heading out. Parking was easy and free!! Very enjoyable!

Brilliant day out. The written exhibition areas are excellent, it was to learn about all the mining in the Clackmannanshire area I'm from - as the exhibits cover all the mining areas in central Scotland. The tour was entertaining and informative. I wish the NCB didn't strip out as much machinery from the the Pitt head area, but still was great to see. I hope in future there's even more areas open to see, it's such a large site and would be fun to wander and explore more.

We booked the tour - it was with Jim who is a very passionate former miner, and knowledgeable about the place and industry itself. This is a nice place, serving warm food within reasonable price. The entire tour in itself is worth to do if you are in the area.

If you're on the hunt for a beautiful wedding venue in Midlothian, we really could not recommend the National Mining Museum enough! We had our wedding there in October and it was just everything we were looking for, and more. The spaces are really incredible just as they are (especially if you're looking for a more industrial aesthetic) but as a dry hire you also have so much freedom to make it your own, and Kerry and the whole team there were so helpful and kind - honestly a real delight to work with! Our guests absolutely loved it, especially the mini tour they went on with Neil during the drinks reception! The museum is also so well connected to Edinburgh that it was super easy for our family and friends from across the country to get there which was an added bonus. It really was so perfect, so I'd definitely drop the team a line if you're looking for something similar! Photos by Susie Olzen Photography.
