About Crake Trees Manor
Tucked into a peaceful pocket of the Eden Valley near Penrith, Crake Trees Manor is a small, back-to-basics farm campsite that punches well above its weight for location. With Ullswater a short drive away and the northern Lakes on the doorstep, it's a proper walkers' and wildlife-watchers' paradise, surrounded by spectacular fells and accessible by public transport for those leaving the car behind. The site itself keeps things simple—grass pitches and a handful of non-electric gravel spots for roof tents and campervans, plus a decent toilet block and washing-up area.
There's no on-site bar or shop, but local produce and takeaway options are available, and Penrith's farmers' market is nearby for stocking up. Dogs are welcome year-round, and the vibe is relaxed and budget-friendly, ideal for rallies, motorcyclists, or anyone after a quiet base for exploring Cumbria's outdoor playground without the frills.

What visitors say
If I could put 6 stars down, I would! The hospitality that my friends and I were shown by Ruth and Mike was excellent, they truly went out of their way to make our stay the best it could be. They are both wonderful people. Good free hot showers, onsite cooking equipment, great spots for pitches, close to a lovely community owned pub (which do excellent meals). Everything you need is at this site. I definitely see myself coming back here to camp, the atmosphere is lovely and Ruth and Mike really made us feel welcomed. Thank you!

Stayed with Crake Trees for one night in a tent and had a very pleasant experience. The site is clean and tidy, and toilet and shower facilities were spotless. There is a kitchen area with a sink to wash up and get fresh water but there’s also a camping stove and kettle to boil water, this was a nice unexpected addition. A cup of tea before unpacking the car went down a treat. Quiet location, perfect for watching the stars. Will definitely visit again.

Beautifully located between two quaint little villages, Crake Trees Manor offers great spaces, and clean kitchen and toilets for those camping. The pitches are not really defined and this might be a bit tricky if there are many guests, but the land is vast and it shouldn’t be a problem. On the Bank Holiday weekend in August (2024) there was a Pizza Night on Friday (they also had vegan options!), and a live band playing on Saturday night in their barn turned into a nice countryside bar. You can order breakfast, including a vegan bap, and fire pits and logs. The owners are lovely and very hands on. A nice little haven in the heart of Cumbria.

I understand that the campsite has T&Cs in terms of their refund policies. However, I feel there should be something in place for exceptional circumstances of emergency service call-outs and HM Forces whereby you are able to get a refund. My partner had to be called out as he’s in the Royal Navy, working on nuclear submarines so we were unfortunately able to make our booking anymore. I rang Ruth at Crake Trees Manor and she was so rude and dismissive, showing no understanding or empathy to the situation. There wasn’t even the option to move the booking to a different date which we were happy to do. We added optional extras onto our booking of £40 for the 4 nights to bring our dog along and then £40 extra to bring an extra car, I would have at least expected to get these refunded as they are optional extras to a pitch booking. I do think there should be something that could be done in this scenario to resolve it. I’ve had no other choice but to leave a bad review. I would not recommend booking at this place, particularly with such a rude host running the site!
