Stopped for lunch on our way to Dumfries. We enjoyed a hot, peppery soup and then a spinach & cheese soufflé with a glass of NZ Sauvigmon Blanc. Delicious 👍😀. Excellent service and a delightful pub/restaurant/hotel 🤗 do visit!!

We had a fantastic experience at The George and Dragon. The food was absolutely amazing—beautifully prepared and full of flavour. The decor created a warm, inviting atmosphere, and the service was just as impressive: attentive, friendly, and professional throughout. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that after visiting for lunch one day, we returned the next evening for dinner—which says it all. A truly memorable place that we’d highly recommend, and if ever in the area again, we’ll definitely be back again

I'm not normally a fan of Sunday pub roasts, however I'll make an exception here. The Sunday roasts were delicious. Up there with the best I've ever had. The main focus was the meat - I ordered the rough fell lamb but was also able to try the roast beef and pork. Lamb - beautifully tender Beef - perfectly pink with a smokey finish Pork - thick cut but buttery smooth and not dry at all All of the veg was spot on and not mushy. The plates were well portioned and filling without being massive. Lastly they were topped off with a large Yorkshire pudding that was the best I've ever had in a pub. Crispy on top but still doughy at the bottom. It had a fabulous flavour too, must have been some smokey meat lard in the oil 👌 Not only that, it was great value too with two courses for £29.95. It was great to have local beers on draught, Tirril Pilsner, Loweswater Gold and Esthwaite Bitter. We sat in the bar as we had a dog with us, this was perfect as the bar seemed to have much more atmosphere than the restaurant. All of the walls are adorned with pictures from the Lonsdale family and the Lowther estate. Old cars, scenes from Lowther Castle and award winning cattle. I would 100% recommend.
