About Queens Head Inn

A stone-built village pub at heart, the Queens Head Inn in Tirril has the low beams, open fires and cosy corners of a proper Cumbrian inn, now with seven bedrooms for those wanting to stay rather than just stop for a pint. The rooms have been recently updated and kept clean and comfortable, giving a straightforward, well-kept base rather than anything showy.

Downstairs, the restaurant and bar are the real draw, with hearty food including notably good breakfasts and Sunday lunches, backed by a decent range of beers. Free WiFi and air conditioning are provided throughout, and there's luggage storage and a meeting room for those combining business with a stay. Dogs are welcome, and free on-site parking makes arriving by car easy.

Staff are consistently described as friendly and attentive, adding to the welcoming feel that runs through the place. Set in Tirril near Penrith, it makes a convenient base for exploring the Lake District and the wider Cumbrian countryside, with the pub itself a comfortable place to return to after a day out.

We ended up here quite spontaneously during our road trip — and honestly, it turned out to be one of the best surprises of our journey. The pub is beautifully located, incredibly welcoming, and the food was absolutely outstanding. I had the duck breast with a red wine & plum sauce, while my husband had the steak & ale pie — both were fantastic. The desserts and cheese board were equally amazing. What really stood out to us, though, was how camper-friendly this place is. We were kindly allowed to stay overnight in the car park with our rooftop tent and immediately felt very welcome. A perfect stop for campers, overlanders or road trippers. In the morning you can also get breakfast there, or simply grab takeaway coffee and tea if you want an early start. You can genuinely feel how much heart and passion goes into this place. These are exactly the kinds of places that make travelling special. We would absolutely come back 😊

Just returned from a fantastic three night stay at this lovely pub. The staff are super friendly (Darren is a blast!), the bar area is really picturesque, with some good ales on tap. The location is perfect with easy access to the motorway and ideal for exploring The Lakes. The rooms are very comfortable and all food served up was delicious. Would absolutely recommend and will return someday!

Pre-booked a Sunday lunch for 6 over the phone/email and they were fantastic. Food and service was great. Would highly recommend popping in for food or refreshments and support the local community. Didn't stay in a room so didn't leave a room rating.
