When is a quarry not a quarry? When it's a glampsite – specifically, a 14-acre limestone quarry that closed in the 1960s and now hosts one of Devon's most distinctive boutique glamping retreats. Set directly on the South West Coast Path, Stones and Stars offers spotless, luxuriously appointed tents and cabins with quality bedding, unusual antique furniture, and all the thoughtful touches: proper crockery, battery power packs for lights and phone charging, hot water bottles on request. Each pitch comes with its own barbecue, firepit and picnic table, plus there's a shared kitchen if you'd rather cook, though the on-site food truck delivers excellent breakfasts and pizzas.
Beyond the famously warm showers and immaculate facilities, you can explore the old boathouse, fish in the lake, or paddle on neighbouring Hooe Lake. Wildlife – badgers, deer, birds of prey – outnumbers the maximum ten pitches, making this a peaceful haven for walkers and anyone craving scenery without crowds. Plymouth's restaurants are fifteen minutes' drive when you tire of campfire cooking.

We had a brilliant stay in the Dynamite cabin at Stones & Stars. The site is set in a really unusual old quarry, which gives it a unique character and makes it feel like a hidden escape. Surrounded by nature and away from the hustle and bustle, it’s the perfect place to switch off and relax. One thing that really stood out was the cleanliness. The cabin was spotless when we arrived, the sheets were fresh and crisp, and everything was maintained to an exceptionally high standard. Everything is really characterful yet done well and to a high standard. A special mention to Spriggy and Joe, who were absolutely fantastic throughout our stay. They were so friendly, welcoming and helpful, and really helped make the experience feel personal and relaxed. Nothing seemed too much trouble, and you can tell they genuinely care about the site and about making sure guests have a great time. We really enjoyed the breakfasts from the food truck in the morning as well as the pizzas around the fire by evening. If you’re looking for a unique glamping getaway near Plymouth with beautiful surroundings, top-notch cleanliness and lovely hosts, we’d definitely recommend Stones & Stars.

One of the best campsites ive stayed at. I got in off the ferry and my plans fell through for another campsite i was supposed to be staying at. I rang this site and the man was incredibly helpful and gave me a spot on the site to stay even though i gave no notice. Was an absolute lifesaver and he even came in to help me out when noone else was staying on the site that night. The site itself is one of the nicest ive stayed at. Even though its in Plymouth it doesnt feel like it, as its inside the quarry so is hidden away and very quiet. The facilities were spotless and the site had a lovely woodland theme. I highly recommend to anyone staying in the area and if i ever come back down i'll be sure to come back.

Stones and stars is the most magical place. We had a brilliant time with our kids here. We stayed in Dynamite the most romantic cabin and the kids stayed in one of the bell tents and loved it! The people were really welcoming and the showers were clean and warm! There are also loads of beautiful walks, excellent pubs and lots of activities near by. If you are considering a glamping experience this is definitely the place ❤️

Dynamite Cabin is a great little getaway: cozy, peaceful, and really well put together. It has a warm, rustic feel that makes it easy to relax right away, and everything feels simple but thoughtfully done. It’s the kind of place where you can unplug, slow down, and just enjoy the surroundings. Overall, a really comfortable and charming spot to stay.
