What guests say
We had a room in the back on the 2nd floor so nice and quiet. Bed was comfortable and room was well equipped (really appreciated the fan). If you get there at check in at 4pm, you can park in the lot next the hotel, pay for 2 hours of parking, and get the rest of the evening free (have to move car by 8am next morning). Breakfast was delicious (pancakes and bacon!) and we also had a wonderful dinner one evening.

I was nervous booking here because the online presence was not great. Not bad, just not great. This place had far exceeded expectations though. The room is not huge but very comfortable. We are on the top floor with a view of the square. Bed was comfortable and the shower was everything! Best shower I’ve had in Europe. Great water pressure and consistently hot. We had dinner in the restaurant downstairs and both the food and service was impeccable. I had a talisker old fashioned, pear and blue cheese salad followed by fresh local mussels then sticky toffee pudding. All of which were delicious. I would love the chance to stay here again.

I stayed at The Portree Hotel for two nights during my visit to the Isle of Skye. The location is excellent, right in the town square. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They even lent me a power adapter. The room was too small but clean and comfortable, with a good bed, a strong shower, effective heating, and reliable housekeeping. My room had a partial loch view, but most of the view was of neighboring buildings and garbage-filled backyards. The main downside was that there is no lift, so if you have mobility issues or luggage, be sure to request a ground-floor room when making your reservation. Breakfast was adequate, although the vegetarian sausages were undercooked. The restaurant bathrooms could also use better maintenance.

First of all, I want to say that the location of the hotel is very convenient, as it is close to the town center. Unfortunately, the overall experience was still quite disappointing. It became apparent that the hotel is largely run by very young, likely seasonal staff who often seemed uninterested in the wellbeing of their guests. While they were polite at times, they frequently appeared unequipped to handle issues or offer meaningful solutions, which gave the impression that guest concerns were not taken particularly seriously. One of the biggest issues was the extreme noise level coming from the pub downstairs. The windows are very thin, to the point where conversations from outside could clearly be heard in the room. Although the staff acknowledged the issue and mentioned quiet hours, these were not enforced, and no solution or compensation was offered. We fully understand that guests and locals want to enjoy their weekends, but it seemed very extrem as pub guests flipped us off when we dared to look out the window. Most importantly, no warning about the noise was provided during check-in. On the weekend, sleeping before 1:30 a.m. was nearly impossible. In addition, the TV in the room was not working. Staff informed us that this had been an ongoing issue for weeks, yet it was still not resolved. The compensation offered for this inconvenience was minimal. Lastly, the sink setup felt very outdated, with separate taps for hot and cold water, making it difficult to wash your hands comfortably without either freezing or burning them. I would recommend future guests consider these points carefully before booking.
