A Bank Street hotel in the heart of Portree, Isle of Skye, with sea views and an easy walk to the harbour and town.

About The Royal Hotel

Portree's harbourside setting, with its coloured houses and busy waterfront, makes it one of Skye's most visited towns, and The Royal Hotel sits right in the middle of it on Bank Street. The location is the main draw here, putting guests within easy reach of the town's shops, pubs and restaurants without needing a car.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, and some enjoy sea views over the town and bay. Family and accessible rooms are available, along with room service and drinks in room. Some rooms are on the dated side, so this suits guests after a straightforward base rather than a boutique stay. Staff are generally friendly, though service can be inconsistent at busier times.

Breakfast is a strong point, with a wide choice on offer each morning, and the on-site restaurant and bar cover other meals, with packed lunches available for days out. Meeting rooms are available for those combining business with a Skye stay. Outside the hotel, Portree offers golf, fishing, watersports and cycling and walking routes, with plenty of pubs and restaurants close by.

This was a solid 3 star hotel and pretty much what I would expect. The room was clean and while compact, was not too small. No lift, so you have to take your luggage up stairs, but unlike other hotels with this issue, the staff offered to take our luggage up for us. The hotel is right in the middle of tiny Portree and near lots of restaurants and the walk down to the quay. So great location. My only complaint was the breakfast was not particularly fancy. They did have fresh fruit, but supermarket bread and croisants. The hot breakfast was OK, but the rolls for the hot breakfast sandwiches were also lousy bread. Still, in-line with expectations for a 3 star hotel.

I am writing this review after reading some previous ones. Staying in the Royal Hotel was an absolute pleasure. Upon arriver, Hugh at the desk was effortlessly charming, helpful, knowledgeable and a credit to you. He showed us to our room; large, spacious and comfortable. If it is a bit dated then so was my parents house. I still liked going. Hugh took the time to talk us round the town, great guy to have front of desk. Brilliant recommendations. Full Scottish breakfast was a brilliant option in the morning. Unlimited coffee and juice to set you up for the day. Next time we come to Skye this will be our base. Thanks Hugh, like I said, a crwdit to your business. Bravo! Ps, the staff in the local shops all love you as well. You should be Provost.

A hotel that does the small things right!! From a fantastic breakfast to superb water pressure to piping hot towel rails this is a hotel that really cares about the detail. I couldn't have had a better time staying at The Royal for the second time. The staff were a pure delight from start to finish - going above and beyond to make sure my party had a lovely time. The location speaks for itself: peering over the beautiful Portree Harbour. Loads of lovely cafes/pubs a mere stone's throw from the front door. Couldn't recommend more highly!

The service team was very warm and amazing..The room is not worth the money spent..the bed was lumpy, the towel warmer not working, the toilet wasn't flushing well and what is supposed to be an exhaust in the bathroom wasn't working. The walls are quite thin and can hear the next door guests. Expected more as the room was quite expensive.
