About The Rosedale Hotel
The Rosedale Hotel suits visitors after a straightforward, well-priced base on Skye rather than a lavish retreat. It sits in Portree, close to Achachork, and works well for couples or families wanting comfortable rooms without fuss, though those expecting an extensive range of extras may find the facilities on the modest side.
Rooms are described as clean and spacious, with several enjoying harbour views, and en-suite bathrooms and family rooms are available for those travelling with children. The hotel has its own restaurant and bar, serves a breakfast with a good range of choices, offers kids' meals, and provides laundry service and drinks in room. Outdoor seating gives guests a spot to take in the surroundings, and staff are noted for being friendly and helpful.
Portree itself offers walking areas, fishing, watersports and entertainment nearby, along with further pubs, bars and restaurants within easy reach for evenings out. It's a practical choice for exploring Skye, with the harbour setting adding a genuine sense of place to the stay.

What guests say
We really wanted to enjoy our visit, but a number of things didn't go well. Our toilet refused to flush all the way, and no one was on hand at any time we went down to the office to ask for help, so we had to open the tank to hold the ball valve down to allow enough water to fill it. The sink hot water never got hot enough to wash our hands thoroughly, so we are convinced the Norovirus we caught our first and second days there came from having to manually work the toilet. The coffee machine didn't work for either of the 3 breakfasts, and all of the breakfast foods were cold or room temperature (sausage rolls and porridge included). They informed us before arriving that parking near the hotel was closed off due to construction, so the only spot available when we arrived was a 10 minute walk away, so we had to lug our checked back (~50lbs) across five blocks and down a steep road into the hotel. The kicker is that there was no construction on the pier and we saw several cars pull up to unload folks and luggage, so knowing that would have saved a difficult trip in the rain.

I stayed at The Rosedale Hotel & Restaurant in Portree in late January 2026. After a long day hiking in cold conditions I returned to my room and took a hot shower. The bathroom has no window or ventilation and the steam set off the fire alarm outside the door. When reception knocked, I was mid-shower and took a moment to answer, then immediately showed the staff member into the room. They confirmed there was no smoke or evidence of anything other than steam. Within five minutes the staff member returned and instructed me to leave immediately, without explanation and despite the absence of smoke or danger. I was confused, startled, and had to find alternative accommodation late at night in a remote village. The next morning I spoke with the manager. They agreed there was no smell or smoke and acknowledged I cooperated fully, yet refused to listen to my account and accused me of smoking with no evidence. I was charged an additional £250 and charged for two nights I did not use (£156). I was treated unfairly, charged unjustly, and the handling of an easily explainable situation was unreasonable and poorly managed. Guests should be aware of how the hotel responds in incidents and the risk of additional charges without proper investigation.

Our stay at the Rosedale Hotel was absolutely excellent. The room was comfortable. The staff was helpful. We had a lovely harbor view and the breakfast was very delicious and had so many options. I especially appreciated the on demand coffee machine with the chocolate croissants.

A comfortable, clean hotel very close to the amenities of Portree. Room was cosy with comfortable beds and fab bath towels. Tea and coffee facilities, good TV, additional heater if required. I had a fab view of the harbour. Unfortunately the restaurant and bar was closed throughout my stay, but you're close enough to eat out. Would recommend for a stay in Portree.
