About The Wellington Restaurant and Bar
Portsmouth's High Street has long mixed maritime history with everyday life, and The Wellington Restaurant and Bar occupies a building here dating back to 1710. The setting gives the place a warm, characterful feel, with the Historic Dockyard and Spinnaker Tower both within easy reach for anyone wanting to explore the city's naval past or take in the view from above.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and in-room drinks, with free WiFi throughout and 24 hour reception for whenever guests arrive. Downstairs, the restaurant and bar serve classic dishes and cocktails, and laundry service and luggage storage are on hand for those making a longer stop in the city. Pets are welcome too.
Beyond the front door, the local area offers plenty to fill a day, from cycling and walking routes to watersports, golf and fishing nearby, plus a good spread of pubs, bars and restaurants within walking distance. It's a straightforward base for seeing Portsmouth, with a proper pub at its centre.

We only had drinks so cannot comment on anything else. Beer garden was lovely. Both members of staff behind the bar seemed a little unsure of things so maybe both new.

We had been to the Vue and decided to go for something to eat. The Wellington was a bit noisy when we went in but decided to stay . We both had fish and chips and I must say the best fish we have had in a while. The young man who served us was very attentive, and really looked after us although he was busy and on the go all the time we were there. From two old ladies thank you very much young man.

Wow what a find. We came down to Portsmouth on Sunday from the West Midlands to watch a show and stumbled across The Wellington. Dog friendly (our Dalmatian loved the dog treats), amazing roasts and the staff were extremely friendly and couldn’t have done more for us. Loved the feel of the pub and the decor and the locals were extremely friendly. And to make our experience even better, there was also entertainment with an amazing singer. Will definitely return when we are back down.
