About Ye Spotted Dogge

Ye Spotted Dogge suits visitors after somewhere with genuine history rather than a chain hotel, especially those exploring Portsmouth's dockyard on foot. Housed in Buckingham House, a sixteenth-century building, it has the kind of quaint, characterful rooms that come with period details rather than uniform modern decor, each with its own en-suite bathroom.

Downstairs there's a bar for an evening drink, outdoor seating for warmer days, and breakfast served each morning to set guests up for the day. Free WiFi, drinks brought to the room, luggage storage and a 24 hour reception cover the practical side, and free on-site parking is a genuine bonus in a city centre location.

The setting works well for anyone combining sightseeing with a bit of activity, with cycling and walking routes, fishing and watersports all nearby, alongside a good spread of pubs, restaurants and entertainment within easy reach. It's a good base for exploring Portsmouth's dockyard and the Spinnaker Tower without needing a car once you've parked up.

No inn is more charming, more rich in history than this hotel in Portsmouth. So rich in history and charm - from the beams used from ships long ago to build the structure of the hotel - to the charm of the garden and rich history of events the occurred at the inn so long ago - no other location can match the amazing experience we had at this inn. Of particular note is the wonderful breakfast, the history of events that occurred here, along with the proximity to the naval yard are perfect in every way. We would return again without a doubt to this very special place.

We stayed over after a Christmas party. The food and hotel were phenomenal our servers were Patrick and Alex who were both outstanding and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast spread was buffet style and so much nicer than the old full English greasy option and again service was outstanding this time by Ian. We will be back again and again !!!! Did I mention the food - amazing. We can’t recommend this gem enough. Thank you for making our evening outstanding.

I put this review off for years because I wanted to do it right. Had great pics and videos etc and have since lost them all due to dropping my phone in the lily pond at Kew Botanical Gardens. This is a fantastic place to stay. Top tier. I dropped 900 quid to extend a car rental for a day just so I could stay another night. Highly recommend. Sorry for the low effort review.

So glad we stayed here before our virgin cruise. It really was the highlight of our holiday. Such a great and cute hotel with so much history and the owners were brilliant! The most comfortable and heavenly beds!
