Hale House

Powys

Powys offers serious walking country, from the Brecon Beacons to quieter valleys, and this Grade II listed house dating to 1480 makes a proper base for exploring it. The timber-framed structure retains original cruck framing and period joinery, but inside it has been updated for actual living—the kitchen works for cooking together, there's a spacious open-plan living area, and bedrooms spread across two floors give flexibility for families or groups. Three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a hot tub in the grounds mean everyone has space to decompress after days out.

The master suite has a distinctly calm quality, designed around rest rather than fuss. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are covered. The grounds themselves are part of the appeal—quiet enough for slow mornings, open enough for evening air. Hale House works for people drawn to old buildings and countryside quiet, and for anyone planning to make the most of Powys on foot or by car. Note that smoking is not permitted, and one pet is welcome. You'll need to arrive after 15:00 and leave by 10:00.
