House in the Hills

Photo: john hayes

House in the Hills is a restored stone farmhouse paired with a separate barn conversion, both built with traditional cruck frames and reclaimed tiles. The main house and annexe sit within the Brecon Beacons National Park near Llanigon, surrounded by the Black Mountains landscape. Five miles from Hay-on-Wye, it's remote enough to feel secluded but within reach of the town's bookshops and restaurants.

The main house holds three double bedrooms, a living and dining room with an open fire, and a kitchen equipped for serious cooking. Upstairs is a games room. The annexe adds two more double bedrooms and its own kitchen and living space with a wood-burning stove. Between them there are two bathrooms, both with roll-top baths and walk-in showers. Ground-source underfloor heating and bed linen are included; Wi-Fi and towels are provided. A private hot tub is available on request. The property sleeps 10 and is yours alone—no other guests, no shared spaces. Dogs are welcome. Note that the access drive is a steep 30-metre gravel road.

The interiors combine oak and flagstone floors with contemporary furnishings. Enclosed lawns and large terraces have garden furniture and barbecues. No smoking throughout. Arrive after 16:00, depart before 10:00.

Lovely setting, beautiful house with walking available from right outside the door. Plenty of warmth everywhere in the house.

Lovely accommodation, excellent design, luxurious finishes everywhere and no corners cut. The most beautiful views. Many different places to sit and enjoy them. We had glorious sunshine, a BBQ (gas, provided) and sat round the campfire. Blissful seclusion.
