The Black Mountains dominate the landscape around Angel Cottage, a recently renovated property on the Powys side of the border near Hay-on-Wye. Brecon is 11 miles away; Hay itself, famous for its bookshops and annual festival, sits 6 miles off. The setting suits walkers and cyclists in particular, with miles of open countryside on the doorstep and bike storage on site.

Angel Cottage is a ground-floor property sleeping four across two bedrooms – a double and a twin – each with its own bathroom (one with a shower cubicle and slipper bath, one with a walk-in shower). The open-plan kitchen and living area has patio doors opening on to a large decked garden; from here the view across the hills is the main event. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, with a dishwasher, cooker and microwave. Essentials like bed linen, towels, heating and wifi are all included. There is private parking for one car, and the property is strictly non-smoking.
