About Pentwyn Dingle and Lodge Paddock Campsite

Tucked at the foot of the Black Mountains with a brook babbling through the site, Pentwyn Dingle offers properly wild camping on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park – yet remains just 10 minutes' drive from the bookshops of Hay-on-Wye. Pitches nestle among trees in a peaceful clearing where birdsong takes precedence over engine hum, and campfires crackle freely come evening. Walkers and cyclists will find routes spilling straight from the gate into spectacular hill country, while the owners happily point you toward canoeing on the Wye or horse riding higher into the mountains.

Facilities remain deliberately minimal: a drinking water tap and chemical disposal point, nothing more. You'll need to bring your own toilet and take all rubbish away with you, which won't suit everyone but keeps the site blissfully uncommercialised. Dogs are welcome year-round and will relish a paddle in the brook after a day's ramble. When you fancy civilisation, two local pubs lie within a mile, and Brecon, Crickhowell and Talgarth all beckon for afternoon potter.

Exceptional campsite! Outstanding views, incredibly well kept site with a stream running alongside the pitches. Great location for walks, cycling, local towns etc. Martin, the owner, is also a great bloke, very warm and accomodating. Perfect no nonsense campsite - 10/10!

Fabulous, no frills site. Water and chemical waste - all that’s needed for a perfect, quiet getaway. Beautiful surroundings in nature with a relaxing brook at the edge of the field. Saw (and heard!) so much wildlife - owls, pheasants, birds of prey…. Was just wonderful. Will definitely visit again. Thank you!

Absolutely perfect! Easy to find off the main road in Three Cocks, but it felt like miles away from civilisation. Picture perfect setting in a pretty little dingly dell, complete with a babbling brook. The only sounds I could hear were the water, birds singing and a pheasant honking in a field across the brook. Lots of well signposted walks from the site with glorious views of the surrounding mountains and Glasbury is about half a mile away if you want to go for a drink or eat out. The campsite is very well maintained and it was nice to see the other campers respecting the environment. Martin, the owner, assisted by Wilf, his gorgeous dog, were really friendly and welcoming. Pitches are unmarked, so I chose a spot right by the brook with its own little "beach". My dogs loved it. Remember to take cash to pay for your pitch. Wish I could have stayed longer than one night, but I'll definitely be returning.
