Old Upper Gwestydd

The borderlands between England and Wales hold small market towns, river valleys and walking routes that stretch for days. Newtown, two miles away, has the shops and restaurants for when you want them. The coast is within a couple of hours' drive. Old Upper Gwestydd is a detached house in working farmland, with an orchard you can wander through, positioned to make this landscape your base rather than your backdrop.

Four bedrooms spread across the upper floor sleep eight—three with zip-and-link or super-king beds, one with two singles—and there are two bathrooms. Downstairs, the living room has a woodburner and smart TV; the kitchen is fully fitted for cooking from scratch; a utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer; the games room holds a pool table and dartboard; and there is a cinema room with a 65-inch screen. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included. A welcome pack arrives before you do, and there is a travel cot, highchair and stairgate if you need them.

The garden wraps around the property with a patio, seating areas and a gas barbecue. A six-person hot tub sits privately at the edge of the garden. There is parking for five or more cars and a bike store. One dog is welcome to stay free. Smoking is not permitted inside.
