Pen-y-Lan Lodges - Lakeside Lodge

Photo: Pen Y Lan Lodges

Meifod sits in the Vyrnwy Valley, a quiet corner of Powys where farmland, woodland and water dominate the landscape. Lakeside Lodge is a contemporary timber lodge on a working farm within a mile of the village itself, purpose-built for holiday lets and finished to a high standard throughout. The ground floor is arranged as one flowing space: living area with woodburner and smart TV, dining zone, and a kitchen fitted for proper cooking. Patio doors open onto a private terrace with views across the lake and fields, where a four-person hot tub is built in.

Two bedrooms sleep four: one with a king-size bed, one with two singles. There is a shower room and an ensuite (toilet only). Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are all provided, along with the initial fuel for the woodburner. You have private parking for two cars and can charge an electric vehicle here for a fee. Smoking is not permitted.

This is the kind of spot where you wake to fields and water rather than rooftops. Meifod has a pub and shop within walking distance; Welshpool, with its market-town shops and restaurants, is six miles away. The Vyrnwy Valley is built for walking, with riverbanks, wooded slopes and open farmland all around you. One dog is welcome to stay.

We've just finished the most peaceful and wonderful week at Pen-Y-Lan Oakwood Lodge! We cannot praise the hosts enough, from their carefully thought out design, space, views, lodges, care to detail and everyday interactions with us! We came as a family of 4 (2 children) and a dog. The dog had bowls ready for him, a little treat tub, there was a lovely basket of treats on the table for us when we arrived. The lodge has everything you need and the hot-tub just adds to the whole relaxation feel! Honestly, a true hidden gem. If you like space, peace and quiet then this is for you with a touch of luxury. The surrounding area is just as wonderful, the kids loved watching the hosts who are also the farmers rounding up and feeding the sheep on their quad everyday, the sheepdogs greet us like they know us, there are swallows swooping over the pond in front of the lodges (we helped one- whole other story but amazing), and the sky at night is exceptional for any fellow stargazers out there (bring a telescope)! You could come just for a relaxation break and if you like adventure, walking and outdoors there is lots to do out of the immediate area. The hosts were very happy to tell us all the good places to go. Not a bad word to say about this place, we will certainly be back. Thank you for a fantastic holiday, we felt relaxed and comfy from the minute we arrived.

We just spent a week in one of these beautiful lodges, a wonderful location and really well equipped, spacious accommodation, extremely clean and well thought out positioning of the lodges for privacy. The host/owners are really friendly and gave us some great pointers on where to go and what to do. We're already planning our return later in the year. Thanks for a lovely stay.

The most beautiful lodges in a gorgeous location. Our stay was absolutely perfect. We are already planning to return as we loved it so much. From the second we walked through the door we felt at home, relaxed and connected with nature. Thank you so much.

Out of the way but close enough to the village and roads around the area, vest lodges I've stopped in, lovely and quiet, plenty of sheep, very tidy place and easy access to surrounding countryside for walking. 3 lodges and spot on.
