Holiday Inn Express Preston South is a modern, purpose-built hotel spread across three floors, with 103 rooms designed for practical, no-fuss stays. It sits within easy reach of Preston city centre and the local attractions, making it as useful for a short business trip as for a motorway break.

What guests say
We stayed at this hotel for one night while traveling from London to Edinburgh, and it was a great stopover. The stay was definitely worth it. The room was spacious, giving our toddler plenty of room to run around and play. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and they thoughtfully allocated us a ground-floor room since we were traveling with a young child. As Holiday Inn members, we were also pleasantly surprised with a complimentary upgrade to a larger family room, which made our stay even more comfortable. Breakfast was good, and overall, it was an excellent experience.

I would strongly advise EV drivers to avoid using the charging facilities at this hotel. I stopped here specifically to use the Tesla chargers and remained on site the entire time while my vehicle was charging, leaving after around 35 minutes once I had enough charge to continue my journey. Despite this, I have since received a £100 parking charge from ParkingEye. The issue is that the process is not clearly explained at the charging bays themselves. When you arrive, you naturally reverse into the space and focus on connecting the charger at the rear of the vehicle. Any signage about needing to enter your registration inside the hotel is not prominent or obvious at the point of use. There are small stickers, but they are not intuitive, easy to notice, or clear about the consequences. There is also no clear, prominent warning of a £100 charge at the charging point, which makes the whole setup feel unfair and poorly designed. To make matters worse, when I contacted the hotel, I was told they could not cancel the charge, despite this being a well-known issue mentioned in other reviews. For a location offering EV charging, this is extremely disappointing. Charging should be straightforward and user-friendly, not something that results in unexpected penalties for genuine users. I would not use this location again and would recommend others carefully read recent reviews before stopping here.

As it was an express I was assuming it wasn't going to be as nice and big as it is. It's location seems kinda just shoved in the area but I like it out of the way. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I didn't know they do a dinner service and it was a bit pricey for a hotel dinner but it was very lovely and full of flavour so it did not disappoint at all. They do have a 24/7 for snacks and drinks which is nice when you just want something quick without having to go out. Was a bit disappointed there was no place to put my clothes since we were here for a week.

We used Preston South as a stop off for a longer family journey. Location wise its perfect for the purposes and easy to find. We're regular users of Holiday Express, and this is a super example of clean, comfortable rooms, very spacious with ample communal areas. The service from the team was just as you'd expect, prompt, courteous and helpful. The parking space is generous and the bonus of the multiple high speed Tesla charging points just adds more value and was reasonably priced considering it's on a major travel route too. (Charging for all models not just Tesla) The food menu is ample but a tiny bit pricey. We decided to order in via deliveroo, which offered a multitude of choice and was quick too. One thing I wouldn't pass up on is the breakfast. A fantastic line up of choices, including a fresh pancake maker if you fancy it, with a great choice of lighter or cooked options. It was fresh and delicious. And served right up to the cut off time too - for any stragglers (not us I'm happy to say 😊). Overall, the stay represented good value, especially considering the unlimited breakfast. Did I mention the breakfast? 😁 A well placed, clean, comfortable environment that comes highly recommended.
