Shepherd’s Cottage

The East Sussex countryside around Rye offers a rare combination of rural tranquility and coastal proximity. Shepherd's Cottage sits on an active farm where sheep, horses and the occasional wandering chicken are part of the landscape—yet Pett Level, Winchelsea Beach, Camber Sands and Hastings are all within easy reach. The village of Rye itself, with its steep high street and medieval character, is close by.

This converted 18th-century stable is a single open-plan ground-floor space where living, dining and kitchen flow together, anchored by a substantial table and a wood-burning stove. One double bedroom opens onto an ensuite shower room. The kitchen handles proper cooking with a gas hob and electric oven, plus a dishwasher and washing machine. A private paved courtyard, furnished with a large wooden table and barbecue, gives a secluded spot to sit out. Parking for two cars is included, and wi-fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are provided. The cottage does not permit smoking.

The interiors balance period character—oak beams, rustic pieces, iron pegs salvaged from the original stable—with modern comfort: underfloor heating, contemporary styling, and everything needed for a two-person stay. It works well for couples seeking a quiet break or anyone who wants to be deep in the countryside but not cut off from the coast.
